Hello:
I have a nice koshirae with the tsuka which was originally a light tan suffering from too much handling with other than dirt and oil free hands. Does anyone know of cleaning method other than soap and water which would not endanger the same?

Careful cleaning with a soft brush water and Woolite Zero. A quick wetting, brush with dilute WZ,  rinse and immediately towel dry by squeezing to minimise ingress to the wood core or same. That or a rewrap. John
