Brass Tsuba With Iron Inlay. Who And When?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have this tsuba for some time now and can't figure it out. It is made of brass and decorated with iron carp. Apart from that there is gold, shakudo and silver inlay. Do you have any idea about time period it was made or the maker?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Krystian

Kristian,

Period is most likely mid to 3rd quarter of the 19th century, absent a signature it's hard to place it as to school...the period was filled with so  many intermingled design influences.  Fascinating piece, the tadpoles are great, all in all a very nice Tsuba.  The iron on soft metal inlay is uncommon and would benefit from some VERY careful cleaning.
