Guest Posted October 24, 2018 Report Posted October 24, 2018 Thanks Peter., Interesting Habaki variation for a non Japanese Officer. Imperial Gift swords to Japanese Officers usually were marked "Onshi" on the Habaki. See Ohmura http://ohmura-study.net/931.html See midway down the page devoted to type 94 Gunto. There is something intriguing about the choice of Kamon, it shows Gosankiri i.e. 3 5 3 petal formation. The formal seal of the office of Prime Minister is currently Goshichikiri i.e. 5 7 5 petal formation. The Gosankiri 3 5 3 was used by the Imperial Guard division of the Imperial Japanese Army, so I wonder if that is relevant. I wonder if the gift was actually from the Emperor or one of the patriotic organisations prevalent at the time. The certificate has me beat at the moment. 1 Quote
