Mark Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 Not sure if this is the right classification for this request, a moderator can move it if it should be in another catagory. I am trying to research a person in regards to a sword i have. The inscription says it was made for 藤原Fujihara 陣左衛門Jinzaemon (or Jin-emon) who was assocated with é–¢å£Sekiguchi 玉心æµGyokushinryu -- i think this is a martial arts school or dojo, the sword was made in 1864 so the person must havve been alive and active then.......... I have tried Googling in English but have not found much. It was suggested that if someone could research it it Japanese using the kanji there may be some information .......... Any help appreciated Thanks! Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Hi Mark, This is interesting. As you probably know Gyokushinryu known as Gyokushinryu Ninpo is one of the Bujinkan arts. The 21st soke of this style is Hatsumi Masaaki, who taught Stephen Hayes, probably wishing he had not. There is also a style called Sekiguchi Shinshinryu, of the Sekiguchi family and still is. I think though this must be the town of Sekiguchi, as the two disciplines have no connection other than that they are within, jujutsu form. That is all the Sherlocking I could do. You probably have this already, eh? John Quote
Mark Posted May 8, 2008 Author Report Posted May 8, 2008 John Thanks! I am very ignorant when it comes to Bujinkan arts........ any and all info will be appreciated Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Hi Mark, I'll post some links. Don't let the music on the first site startle you. John http://www.bujinkan.com/index.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bujinkan Quote
Jacques Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 Hi, Gyokushin ryu is a traditional Jujutsu, It was learned by Mochizuki Minoru sensei (near Sanjuro Öshiam), whom included it in the yoseikan's technique. Sekiguchi ryu is a kenjutsu and jujutsu ryu, it was founded by Sekiguchi Jushin (1595-1670) Quote
benkyoka Posted May 9, 2008 Report Posted May 9, 2008 I have included a scan from the most recent edition of the Bugei Ryuha Daijiten æ¦èŠ¸æµæ´¾å¤§è¾žå…¸. It is the entry for the Sekiguchi Gyokushin Ryu. It is listed as a Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu ryuha. This ryu is not affiliated with the Gyokushin that makes up part of Hatsumi's Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu organization. I have highlighted the relevant entry. I hope this helps in some way. Quote

Thanks again for the help mark The information is a listing of the lineage of the Sekiguchi Gyokushin Ryu. There is not much information. The first line 岡山辺ã«ä¼æ‰¿ã€‚ translates roughly as 'okayama area lore' and then there is a list of four names who were at one time the heads of the system. The last name is Ishihara Tsurutarou 石原鶴太郎. Googling gives me two links regarding that school. http://kobe.cool.ne.jp/ikkansai/syohan.htm http://www.bokuden.or.jp/~bunbkan/page225.html There is not much information on these pages, however. typing Ishihara Tsurutarou into the yahoo Japan search engine brings up this link. http://www1.harenet.ne.jp/~ryo-albatross/renmeisi.htm This might lead to something. I wish I had the time to look into this further (this is right up my alley), but alas... Quote
