James2711 Posted April 22, 2018 Report Posted April 22, 2018 Hello Everyone My names is James. I recently purchased this sword but having trouble translating the mei. I think the middle Kanji is "Sada" and the last maybe "saku"? Please note the first pic is the full signature and the second pic is a pic of the just the first Kanji cause it didn't show up well in the first pic. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 22, 2018 Report Posted April 22, 2018 To my eyes, closest would be 安貞 Antei nen. Mei does not appear Kamakura. Quote
James2711 Posted April 22, 2018 Author Report Posted April 22, 2018 Thanks! Is Antei nen a time period? If so which one? Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 23, 2018 Report Posted April 23, 2018 During the Kamakura period. The mei does not appear to have that age. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antei Quote
James2711 Posted April 23, 2018 Author Report Posted April 23, 2018 Thanks I got it 1227-1229. The Mei does not appear to be that old for sure but the sword sure does. Very narrow hamon and old blade characteristics. Mei was added much later but not sure why. Thanks! Quote
John A Stuart Posted April 23, 2018 Report Posted April 23, 2018 I would have thought 文貞 Buntei, but, there is no period named this unless it is one of those oddities that were dated before the official period name was given. John Quote
