John A Stuart Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Hi All, I am particularly fond of Mino-den and Jumyo especially. I am posting a pic of the nakago of an Hitachi Jumyo that I just won at a pretty good price from Ken Farmer Auctions. The picture sucks I know and has a messy chalk rubbing to highlight, but, the mei seemed to have the characteristics to lead me to believe that it is genuine. What is the opinion of the board? I know I can research it better when in hand, but, it would be nice to have your thoughts before hand. John Quote
Jacques Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Hi, What is the opinion of the board John, I think you need learning photography with Darcy  Quote
Ford Hallam Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 The fuchi looks to be Jakuchu school though Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 5, 2008 Author Report Posted May 5, 2008 Hi Ford, Jacques. First let me say I didn't take the pictures but training with Darcy would sure help with those I do take. I am intrigued by the fittings as well and can only hope that the kashira matches as I have no clear shot of that. You've lost me there a bit, Jakuchu?, I know the school of painting started by Jakuchu Ito, but, am not aware of metalworkers of this name. Oh, sorry, Jakushi, Nagasaki group, typo!! I'll have to check that out. Thanks, John Quote
Ford Hallam Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 oops! sorry John, my befuddled mind...Ito Jakuchu...Murakami Jochiku...it's all a blur I'm speaking of the Murakami Jochiku school. Take a peek at my blog for a recent, brief comment on him. I've always thought Jakuchu's paintings would make magnificent designs for metalwork, both his detailed stuff and the more expressive ink paintings style. regards, Ford Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 5, 2008 Author Report Posted May 5, 2008 Hi Ford, OK, I do it all the time. I'll check out your blog. John Quote
John A Stuart Posted June 4, 2008 Author Report Posted June 4, 2008 Although my photography is poor I think this shows the mei much better. http://www.johnstuart.biz/new_page_15.htm John Quote
