John A Stuart Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Hi All, I just won a sword at Ken Farmer Auctions for a pretty good price. It is an Hitachi Jumyo, I'll determine which when I get it but have my expectations. Anyway some of the fittings are Masayoshi, I don't know which of the numerous artists it is. The tsuba, however is interesting by pics. I don't think this is Masayoshi or Shoami, so I throw it out for ideas. John Oh, Yes, I should mention that it is on the sword backwards. Whoever took the auction pics didn't know any better. Quote
docliss Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Dear John It is obviously not possible to make a firm attribution on your recently acquired tsuba, and we look forward to seeing it in better detail in the near future. I wonder, however, if it is one of that rather enigmatic group that Gemmell labelled as ‘Large Figure SÅtens’, and described as ‘incorporating only two or three full-length figures filling the whole extent of the frame ....’ Regards, John L. John A Stuart Posted May 5, 2008 Author Report Posted May 5, 2008 Hi John, Very possible, the work doesn't seem too bad. I was thinking it was Notre Dame school and depicting the famous Knute Rockne. Sorry, the kabuto reminded me of old football helmets. Anyway I shall post it when it is in my possession. Thanks, John Quote
