Cdog Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 I just acquired a couple of Japanese swords and need some help. This ricasso has the Tokyo arsenal mark (with serial number) on one side and lettering on the other side that needs translation. The backstrap has the traditional Cherry Blossom accents but also has a pair of flags. The other sword I will show in a separate post. Thank you for any help you can give! Quote
brannow Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 HI Sorry its a Chinese fake of a Manchu sword. 2 Quote
Cdog Posted March 10, 2018 Author Report Posted March 10, 2018 Does it have any value or did I just throw away some cash? Quote
Brian Posted March 11, 2018 Report Posted March 11, 2018 The latter unfortunately.Try and get a refund. Japanese fittings were never crude like this, avoid anything that isn't finished off nicely and smoothly. 1 Quote
Peter Bleed Posted March 11, 2018 Report Posted March 11, 2018 I won't argue with anything posted so far, but I sure wish somebody would organize and present information on "real" pre-War Chinese and Manchurian swords. There HAD to be some. How do we tell the real ones from the recent attempts at fakery? And don't tell me about crudity. Lots of Chinese militaria is crude. It also seems to be the case that lots of Chinese gear was explicitly - if crudely - copied from Japanese originals. Peter Quote
brannow Posted March 12, 2018 Report Posted March 12, 2018 There are swords like this but they wont have a serial number and the poorly struck misshaped arsenal mark. Quote
