Geraint Posted November 14, 2017 Report Posted November 14, 2017 Jean. If you go to the top tool bar and click on "Research", then "Swordsmith Database", you can try entering Kanemoto, Kanetomo and Kanemitsu and see what you get. With three character mei it is very hard to verify unless it is a well known smith whose work appears in one of the many books. All three names are used by many smiths and so identifying the one who made your sword and confirming that it is genuine is likely impossible. The nakago seems to have takanoha yasurime which points to a Mino smith. Forgive me if these terms are new to you, please let me know if you would like an explanation. All the best. Quote

Brian Posted November 15, 2017 Report Posted November 15, 2017 Jean,There are many Kanemoto (no..it does not look like Mitsu) and it would be very hard to work out which one from the pictures shown.Mino Kanemoto, one of many. Don't think there is more that we can tell you with the info given. Probably original I am guessing. Quote
Katsuhide Posted November 15, 2017 Author Report Posted November 15, 2017 Thanks Brian for this information Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted November 15, 2017 Report Posted November 15, 2017 I think it is most likely an undocumented or much lesser known Mino smith. I used to own a tachi signed Kanemoto that had similar moto character. Only Kanemoto smith from Mino I found in books using this moto character was Kanemoto working in early Edo period. It was not fitting for my sword and I think it is also too different to fit your signature. Here is image of comparison mei. It seems he used both the Kanemoto line moto character style and this one. Katsuhide Posted November 15, 2017 Author Report Posted November 15, 2017 Good evening Jussithanks for these informationsIt's true that Kanemoto is similar Quote
