ice-hot Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Hi, I recently bought this scroll from a shop in Tottori City Japan. The owner thought it was made about 1900 but claimed he could not translate it. He said something about the Kanji was to old for him to read? Anyway, can any one else shed some light on the translation? Thank You, JohnA Quote
Nobody Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 I am only 70 % sure, but I guess them as follows; 江畔画居 – A studio on the riverside 寫於桜重画房中 蘇水 (岡田) – Sketched at Sakuragasane gallery, Sosui ((seal): Okada) I am especially unsure about red characters above. The artist’s name seems to be Okada Sosui (岡田蘇水, 1879? - 1942). Quote
ice-hot Posted November 11, 2007 Author Report Posted November 11, 2007 Thank You for the translation. Was that a date of birth and death that you left next to the artists name? If it was were did you happen to find anything on him? Thanks again, JohnA Quote
