jmcdonald Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 Need help with inherited sword and mei. It just doesnt look right to me. possibly a gimei blade. No file marks on tang. Rough shaped tang with flat cut off end. also only one mekugi-ana. 30 inch blade. In shira saya storage mounts. It is a "tachi style blade". Suguha hamon pattern. I just really would like to figure out the authenticity of this blade. Thanks in advance for any help on this, James. The only Kanji I have possibly been able to read are, Yamato 大和 birthplace maybe 住 created or made by 作 I Tried haha. Quote
Fuuten Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 I can't really comment on the blade, but that mount is not a shirasaya, looks way off.. 1 Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 I have tried brightening up your pic. Looks like Kane something Quote
jmcdonald Posted July 28, 2015 Author Report Posted July 28, 2015 Not sure if this one is better. The mounting is what it was in when my grandfather obtained it. It was painted a green camo then. He said he got it off of a Japanese officer when he was in the Philippines the last year of the war. Quote
Kronos Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 Yamato Kuni Junin then may be Kane and i have no idea about the last kanji, maybe naga but that's a stretch. Quote
Markus Posted July 28, 2015 Report Posted July 28, 2015 Yamato no Kuni-jûnin Kanenaga saku (大和国住人包永作). Very big name, signature very different from that big name... 1 Quote
jmcdonald Posted July 28, 2015 Author Report Posted July 28, 2015 So more than likely gimei being labeled a kanenaga. so now its just trying to figure out when it was made if I know its not a 1000 year old blade. That is the hard part right. Thank you for the translation help. Quote
