taboz Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Hi guys, the seller send me a comment for this sword, edo period 1600. what do you think? estimation? general conditions? very thanks Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 Just my personal opinion but I think Lanes Armoury is sometimes quite optimistic with their descriptions. I have made no dealings with them (other than asked if they might be interested in buying an old sword of mine - for the reason I stated on the left I tried to be optimistic). They have a lot of marketing speech on their selling descriptions instead of listing important information about the current item. Funny how they said Edo period to you, yet they list it as Koto circa 1500 on their site. It's quite hard to say anything on some of the pics they have provided on items. I would rather save up that 1500£'s. Or at least ask for better pictures and accurate information about the item. 2 Quote
Kronos Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 It looks quite tired to me with possibly the hamon running off the edge or at least perilously close. There are infinitely better options at that price point. Quote
taboz Posted May 10, 2015 Author Report Posted May 10, 2015 Thanks, You know the links for buying katana? Quote
Kronos Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 http://www.aoijapan.com/ would be a good place to start, or even in the for sale section here good deals come up often, although I'd recommend saving up while you read books so you get a good knowledge base to make good decisions while figuring out what you like. Jamie Posted May 10, 2015 Report Posted May 10, 2015 There are a few on the board now for good prices. You'll get more for your money out of a wakazashi. As pointed out above you'd probably do better buying some books and figuring out what you like before buying. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted May 11, 2015 Report Posted May 11, 2015 Yes, Max, Jamie has hit the nail on the head. Take a few hundred dollars over to Amazon, & buy a few books that will start to establish in your mind which types of swords were made for a given period. Like everyone else on this forum, we were all anxious to buy our first Nihonto, & those of us who started with books ended up buying a better blade for less money. Ken Quote
