This one was fun, an inscription on a shinsaku mamorigatana which has a classic ken sugata:

 

守 護 剣 也

 

Which to me, a bloody amateur, translates as:

Protective ken (this is)

 

But I have doubts about the two kanji: and

 

They seem to mean the same... "mamori"

 

Could you please guide me a little bit?
