Jiro49 Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Just won this, I should have it by Tuesday but wanted some opinions in the interim based on the sugata and nakago if the mei might be shoshin? Thanks in advance! Quote
Jiro49 Posted December 11, 2014 Author Report Posted December 11, 2014 I rotated the pics but they are not uploading correctly? I love my android phone Quote
cabowen Posted December 11, 2014 Report Posted December 11, 2014 Nakago looks to have been cleaned possibly. Lots of Fuyuhiro smiths. The better ones usually have a long mei. They also made rather utilitarian, users that are on par with Takada and the like. Possibly what you have here.... Quote
Darcy Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 9 Juyos with this signature by various Fuyuhiro and 7 of them have two or three character signatures. Your nakago jiri looks a lot like one of them. I'd say play it conservatively, maybe you have at least a good blade though it is too much to hope for a Juyo contender. A lot of these have strong Soshu influence from these smiths so can be very pleasant to look at. This one that passed Juyo has a fantastic hamon. Quote
cabowen Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 I stand corrected as it seems there are indeed at least a few good works done with a short mei. Most I have seen weren't so good; seems the sue koto smiths of this group get lumped in with others as mentioned that made a lot of practical blades. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this one turns out to be one of the good ones... There are something like 18 generations of Fuyuhiro in Wakasa, where the shodai is said to have been the son of the nidai Soshu Hirotsugu (there's the Soshu connection), another 5 generations or so in Izumo, and at least 9 generations in Aki. Then there are handful of others that worked in Bizen, Mino, etc. Thus, it may be tough to pin down a short mei to a specific smith. Quote
Jiro49 Posted December 22, 2014 Author Report Posted December 22, 2014 Thank you for the input! Does the fuyu kanji look unique or odd? Again, I thank you gentlemen for your time! Quote
Jiro49 Posted December 22, 2014 Author Report Posted December 22, 2014 Finally received the sword after the post office mis-placed it for a few days. It has a shimazu kamon on tbe kabutogane, its maru-mune and is unokubi-zukure with a 24" nagasa. Im just starting to look to see if this helps refine the search as it must just based on the sugata...? Quote
