Stumbled upon an interesting picture in the small booklet to the Uchigatana Koshirae exhibition in 1985 by the National Museum in Tokyo (please don't confuse this booklet with that big book on the same subject),

A sword from the 16th century has what seems kamasu kissaki, which is said to have been the standard until the 14th c.

So, this sword is either older or kamasu kissaki was used even during the Sengoku jidai,,,

Or it was broken and reshaped....

It is possible though that it was made as a throwback to an earlier age, which happens from time to time. That is what makes things so interesting...

Hm... and given to a shrine? That would have been disrespectful, no? :?:

MIshima Taisha had some blades that were pretty beat up so I don't know for sure....Don't forget many of those Nara temples/shrines had warrior monks and veritable arsenals...I'm just saying it is a possibility...
