cabowen Posted July 27, 2014 Report Posted July 27, 2014 Here are the kanji to help understand the romanization: Efu ju Akao Yoshitsugu 江府 住 赤尾 吉次 Quote
svarsh Posted July 27, 2014 Author Report Posted July 27, 2014 Curran and Cabowen, Thanks a lot. What "Efu ju" means? There were 6 generations of Akao Yoshitsugu. Which one made this piece? Quote
Curran Posted July 27, 2014 Report Posted July 27, 2014 Efu = Edo = former name of Tokyo Ju= Of (or) In , referring to a place. "Yoshitsugu, of Edo." as in: "Johnny Ramone, of NYC" Quote
Henry Wilson Posted July 27, 2014 Report Posted July 27, 2014 Ahh the Ramones! Absolutely love them! What a way to spend New Years Eve! Quote
Guido Posted July 28, 2014 Report Posted July 28, 2014 府 = prefecture, in this case "E(do) prefecture". 住 = residence; however, since sword and fittings inscriptions are usually done in kambun, there's an unwritten no when read. IOW: Efu no jū Akao Yoshitsugu = Akao Yoshitsugu, resident of Edo prefecture. Quote
