Stopper37 Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I found this on e-bay: 130138653443 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0138653443 The thing is very strange, it has temper line extending thru out the spine, the mei is up side down. The seller claims that it is WW2 and oil quenched. Looks very interesting but: 1) The ana in the tang was drilled by power tool 2) zero rust in the tang (if someone polished off the rust, the power tool mark wouldn't be there) 3) The jada is very very "loud" 4) What are the changes that someone in Japan will made a folded steel 14.5 in blade wak (can't be gunto) with hamon like that AND oil quench it? Am i looking at one of the better made faeks? Quote
Bungo Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 5) the mei was signed in the wrong direction milt the ronin Quote
Stopper37 Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 So i guess the #1 and 2 rules of bidding on e-bay apply: 1) don't bid on e-bay  2) don't bid if there's any doubt I got interested because of the strange hamon..... Quote
mike yeon Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Its a fake. Even real nihonto in poor condition look better than this. With this blade, the lines are very sloppy which is a good indicator. I wouldn't say don't bid on ebay. There are plenty of legitimate sellers and real items. Just get smarter about detecting fakes (by getting smarter about real blades) and ebay can be a good place to find a decent blade. Good luck! mike Quote
sencho Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 definitely a fake..... Very Chinese looking "hada" the old oil on water look.... nothing is crisp and fine about this and the mei being upside down, inside out and all, looks like it was done with the old dremel tool again. So is the tsuba he is listing also a fake...??? cheers! Quote

Rich T Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 I especially like the mekugi ana with the burs from the drill that have not been filed off Very neat. Richard Quote
mike yeon Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 It's also about 10 finger widths away from the hamachi. As a general rule the placement should be 3 fingers or 4 for a tachi. mike Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 too low and in the wrong place... hahaha wouldnt try to swing that one.... if it comes loose, the gravity will tip the blade right in your leg! KM Quote
