Blundemo Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 One recently sold on ebay, from, you guessed it: komonjo. This one has hozon papers though unlike the rest of his gimei blades. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-Samura ... TQ:US:1123 A screaming deal or a fair price for a rough looking blade? Or is that rough jigane typical in Magoroku swords? Quote
cabowen Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 I find the koshirae more interesting than the blade....the blade strikes me as nothing special. Screaming deal? not to me, but then I collect taisho/early showa blades, so what do I know? Quote
Jean Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 Btw, there were several generations. Here is the ninth: http://www.samuraishokai.jp/sword/13139.html Quote

Here is the ninth: http://www.samuraishokai.jp/sword/13139.html You think the ebay one is not shodai? When NBTHK puts Magoroku in parenthesis, they refer to the Magoroku. But who knows, the paper could be fake... Quote
Derek Posted April 27, 2014 Report Posted April 27, 2014 Signature looks good for nidai Kanemoto. Paper is probably correct. I would worry about other areas.... Derek Quote
Surfson Posted April 27, 2014 Report Posted April 27, 2014 I used to play the game of "find the issues" with this seller. Chris, you are correct that the grain is not up to his standards. The blade is also very short (only 60 cm, barely more than a wakizashi). The "ohada" is bordering on too wide, and the sanbonsugi hamon doesn't appear to be very prominent (though this may be the photos rather than the polish or the construction. Just a few thoughts. leo Posted April 27, 2014 Report Posted April 27, 2014 According to paper it is a wakizashi even if it used to be a Katana. The seller avoided to mention this. Price definitely too steep. Martin Quote

I can barely see a thing, let alone the grain besides prominent rough hada. Not sure how you're able to. Looks like bad polishing to me. Quote
