nihonto-do Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 NBTHK attributed as"Nakakadzy Yadzaemon-no jo Sada"(仲鍛治弥左衛門尉貞)? Please tell me your opinion. Maybe it's - Echizen Kuni Hyuga Daijō Fujiwara Sadatsugu (越前國日向大掾藤原貞次)? Thank you! Best regards, Artem Quote
cabowen Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Echizen Sadatsugu is not listed as signing as yours is signed. I searched several indices and found nothing that matches yours. "Unrecorded smith" is most likely the case here.... Quote
Darcy Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 The NBTHK paper underneath the Sada character has a rough spot. Can you take a close up photo of that? In the case of signatures like this where the NBTHK has made a determination to a smith after the partial mei they will put the determination in parenthesis. I'm not 100% sure but it looks like this was done here and then someone stripped it off the paper or rubbed it off. Quote
tony edmunds Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 I have a mumei katana that was papered to Hyugu Daijo Sadatsugu ( Hozon) by the NBTHK. Apparently his work is disitnctive (to the trained eye) which would suggest the blade in question may not be by him. Regards Tony Quote
