pcfarrar Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 Can anyone help with this Bizen tanto mei? I'm not 100% certain on the date and I guess with the first character obliterated by the mekugi-ana it will be difficult to confirm. Bizen kuni ju Osafune Harumitsu Ei(or ten)sho hachi nen hachi gatsu kichi jitsu (1511 or 1580?) Also any thoughts if the mei is genuine? Thanks, Peter Quote
wbt Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 I would think it is eisho era. i have attached an image of a NBTHK papered Eisho date from a Sukesada Katana. I have also attached two Signatures from Harumitsu blades, both with NBTHK papers. One is a tanto and the other a katana. There were a few Harumitsu's so it depends on which one yours is. The ones I attached don't have dates associated with them, but are late muromachi. Regards, brent Quote
pcfarrar Posted May 13, 2013 Author Report Posted May 13, 2013 Hi Brent, Thanks for the oshigata. I do think it is Eisho myself, but you can't really be certain as the kanjii is not visible. Anyone else have any Harumitsu oshigata (preferably tanto) for me to compare? The workmanship in the blade does seem consistent with Harumitsu. Thanks, Peter Quote
