Viper6924 Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Hi guys! I have seen this mon before and now it popped up again. Last time, If I´m not mistaken, was on a jingasa. Sorry for the bad picture. Any clues??? Thanks! Jan Quote
sanjuro Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 I could be wrong here, but wasnt this one of the battle flag/Sashimono emblems of the ikko ikki forces ? Quote
Viper6924 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Report Posted February 8, 2013 Here´s a picture of a Ikko ikki battleflag. You are on the right track. The mon looks a bit like a headstone. Mmmm.... Jan Quote
John A Stuart Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Yes that is a funerary monument. One notable that used it on nobori was Mogami Yoshiakira. The mon picture is an hyou, gourd. I've seen it, but, can't remember where. I do know it was special to I believe Tokugawa Ieyasu. John Quote
sanjuro Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 I cant find a mon like this in any of my computer files on Kamon. What is it that is piercing the gourd on the OP mon? is it an arrow? Quote
Viper6924 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Report Posted February 8, 2013 It looks a bit like an arrow, Keith. I had a much better picture but that one seems to have gone with the old computer And I don´t remember the details from that one. Perhaps this is one of those "group-signs" that You often come across especially on jingasas? Thanks John for that piece of interesting info. Def worth following up a bit. Ja Quote
John A Stuart Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 I was wrong in who the gourd was signal to. It was Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Here is a pic from the path to the castle in Gifu that explains it. It may have nothing to do with your mon, but, is interesting none the less. John Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted February 8, 2013 Report Posted February 8, 2013 Good evening all, Try Maruni Hitotsu Hirako. Cheers Quote
Viper6924 Posted February 8, 2013 Author Report Posted February 8, 2013 I´m somewhat of a castle freak. Been all over Japan to watch the twelve original ones, so def interesting, John And spot on, Malcolm!!! Just wonder what the meaning of that "arrow" is. And also of course which clan used it. Were getting there... Jan Quote
