Jacques,

Premium to Masame and cutting test - We'll see.

Adrian,

Auction at Aoi-Art becomes firm sale after a period of x days. You will seldom see anyone starting a war on Aoi-Art auction. At the end of the day at 99%, it is almost always the selling price.

The kitae ware in this position..., its a pity, such a beautiful blade.

Maybe the 2 bodies were one too much ;)

Thank you Jean, I got it. :)

This is a truism Jacques and true for all kind of kitae. I have seen years ago a Sendai Kunikane with kitae ware and priced accordingly (I have seen also a Kiyondo with some slight ware). It does not matter as ware in masame are not considered as kizu.

In this sword, the masame is very good though less refined than in Kunikane or Kanekiyo. Were it not for the kizu at the yokote level, I have no doubt this sword would get TH. There is no need to have it pass Hozon, quality speaks for itself.

Masame swords are scarce, you can browse the web, you won't find no more than 10 for sale of which I am sure no more than 3 (this one included) with a cutting test.

I judge the blade not the smith.

The sunagashi is nice...

Does anyone know what kind of tsukurikomi would be likely for this sword? Is there a certain tsukurikomi that masame-hada is linked with? I don't recall ever hearing of anything about this. It seems like it would be easier to forge in muku-gitae...

In your usual rush to find fault with something, in fact anything that someone has stated, you have missed a rather crucial part of what Jean has said.

The entire sentence from which you have quoted appears below.

Were it not for the kizu at the yokote level, I have no doubt this sword would get TH.

'WERE IT NOT FOR THE KISU AT THE YOKOTE LEVEL', seems to have been lost in your reading.

I could be wrong of course, but It seems that the entire quote leaves your statement rather flat and redundant.

Hi,

Keith,

You are right on this, so i apologise. Nevertheless i wonder how one can say it could get tokubetsu hozon without having the blade in hands and without the necessary knowledge to exactly check the potential of that sword.

I think Jean was merely expressing a personal opinion, not issuing a kantei certificate. Personal opinions are a liberty to which we are all entitled. Since Jean isn't exactly a dummy when it comes to nihonto, in the spirit in which it was given, I respect both the opinion and his right to express it. :)
