Soshin Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Hi Everyone, Not sure if this is a good place for this type of post so feel free to move it. I won my first non eBay auction lot over the weekend. I placed an absentee bid after work last week when they were having an exhibition. Here is the auction house website: http://www.sloansandkenyon.com/. The auction house is about 10 miles away from where I live and near were I work. When I get a chance to take some photos of the lot items I will post in the other applicable forum discussion. I have been registered with them since 2006 but this is the first time I had bid and won a lot at auction. :D The only problem now is I have limited funds for my upcoming trip to Tampa show. Comments and questions are welcome. Yours truly, David Stiles Quote
george trotter Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Dave, Maybe give us the description and/or lot number? (over 1000 lots). Thanks, Quote
Soshin Posted January 30, 2013 Author Report Posted January 30, 2013 Hi George T., Thanks for the reply. Here is the description of the lot from the auction catalogue. Sale 74, Lot 521 Japanese KAMAKURA-BORI TSUBA, Muromachi period, circa 1500. Rounded rectangular iron plate carved on the surface with a dragon on both sides with inlaid eyes, raised rim, probably made for the Chinese market. Together with a ko-tosho-style tsuba, late Muromachi period (16th century), the quatrefoil iron plate with a tsuchime surface and pierced with a geometric design, possibly depicting a stylized dragon. - 3 1/4 in. diam.Estimate $500-700 PROVENANCE: Donated by Asian Cultural Exchange Foundation to The Roland Park Country School on November 14,1980. The one photo they had on the website was really poor. It was taken under poor lighting with low resolution and soft focus. I am glad I spent the extra time to see the lot in person before deciding to bid. Yours truly, David Stiles Quote
Henry Wilson Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Congratulations and I would very much like to see what you won. Quote
Soshin Posted January 30, 2013 Author Report Posted January 30, 2013 Hi Henry W., Thanks for the reply. The above measurement are for the Kamakura tsuba the Ko-Tosho is larger. The only condisition issue I had to deal with was the fact that each tsuba had old collection stickers with glue on them. They were likely on there since the donation over 30 years ago to the school. Once I am finished cleaning off the glue I will set up and take some photos. Yours truly, David Stiles Quote
lotus Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 I look forward to seeing them as well. As for Tampa, you could always sell a couple more Tsuba from your collection Quote
Soshin Posted January 30, 2013 Author Report Posted January 30, 2013 Hi Patrick R., I see your point. I am going listing one more tsuba from my collection I had awhile on eBay and NMB for sale. I will try a get it up on eBay and NMB this evening. I also need some money for a upcoming shinsa as well. I might also bring a tsuba that I would be willing to trade if I find something really nice at the Tampa show. Yours truly, David Stiles Quote
