cabowen Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 a sword selling venue? Seems back in October they closed down and relaunched, sans swords. Too bad. One by one, the Japanese auction sites have eliminated swords. Surprised no one has commented on this here... Quote
leo Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 Chris, have not opened bidders for a while, now I am a bit shocked! First Yahoo, now bidders. Wonder, where it will end? One thing I noticed: Aoi-Art auction results have picked up recently, maybe due to this. Dealers who export directly like Sanmei, Aoi-Art, E-sword etc. will profit from this. Agents might lose business. Wonder why. Maybe the formal trouble related to weapon sales is too high compared to turnover? Regards, Martin Quote
cabowen Posted November 24, 2012 Author Report Posted November 24, 2012 I don't think there are any legal issues per se with operating an auction and allowing swords in Japan. Most do not ship overseas so the normal issues with overseas buyers are avoided. I wonder if there haven't been a mountain of complaints from dissatisfied buyers who have been scammed??? If you look at most of what is on auction, you realize how easy it would be to be taken and I can't help but wonder if those running the auctions are tired of dealing with complaints? There was always several hundred sword items so it was most likely a good revenue source. There must be some other reason for the change. Quote
Christophe Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 Bidders have stopped all second hand auction in September and it is focus now only on the sale of new products. Vendors are reunited with same username on the site Winners Japanese sword. Still some of them ship oversea. Less swords and higher price. Japanese market change, and if it's still easy to have export papers in tokyo, it become almost impossible in some aera. http://winners-auction.jp/ Christophe Quote
Brian Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 Is anyone familair enough with Japanese that they can send me the correct links for all of these categories here : http://www.nihontomessageboard.com/japa ... links.html for the Bidders auctions..so that I can replace them with winners-auction links instead? Just need the category and the link for each of the categories. Thanks, Brian Quote
cabowen Posted November 25, 2012 Author Report Posted November 25, 2012 There is no 1-1 correlation. The links will all have to be redone. Quote
Brian Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 Chris, Yes...I meant for someone to send me the urls for the actual search containing those keywords. I'll change the links and other text. In other words, search for "wakizashi" and then send the url...etc etc. I don't know enough Japanese to navigate the auction site. Brian Quote
cabowen Posted November 25, 2012 Author Report Posted November 25, 2012 I will send them to you tomorrow.... Quote
cabowen Posted November 25, 2012 Author Report Posted November 25, 2012 PM sent Brian with the links. Quote
Brian Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 Thanks Chris, I have edited the Bidders links to the new auction. Guess I should be removing Yahoo and JSA, as I think neither of them do this anymore? Is there a specific search that will find tsuba or yanone or fuchi/kashira on Winners? Brian Quote
cabowen Posted November 25, 2012 Author Report Posted November 25, 2012 Sorry, guess I forgot that one: tsuba, menuki, fuchi-gashira: http://winners-auction.jp/productList/category/201 I would remove the other auctions as they no longer have swords.... Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 Cowans *USA. is still auctioning (mainly WWII) swords. http://www.cowansauctions.com/auctions/ ... urai+sword Dont know their reputation, but at least they are still selling, just like the larger auction houses like Sothebys etc. KM And yes, I know that this topic was about bidding on Japanese auctions in Japan, but more and more auctioneers seem to remove themselves from selling Japanese swords, also in Europe.
