Hi

I have what I believe is a Yoshimitsu Seki blade made by the "other Yoshimitsu", Tanaka Shokichi. I really need help making sure though....I attached a couple pics for folks to look at, including the "Mount Fuji" Hamon line. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Steve,

I'm not sure who you mean by "the other Yoshimitsu", but checking Jinsoo Kim's list of WWII Seki Kaji (linked above) at about #28 on the list is a smith who made Seki gunto ...

his art name is Yoshimitsu...

real name details are Yabushita Fujio...

he was registered on 1st April 1940.

As yours has the Seki stamp and there is no other Yoshimitsu on the Seki Kaji list, I'd say this is who made your sword.

Hope this helps,

regards,

PS I have only ever seen one other Seki Gunto with Mt Fuji hamon...nice find.

Hi George and thanks so much!! I figured out my error due to your great post: my swordsmith is Seki Kaji. There are 2 other Yoshimitsus during WWII. One is from Nigata Pref. and the more famous and sought after from Saga Pref. These smiths made traditional art blades vs. armoury blades from MY Yoshimitsu, haha! Thanks so much for the most valuable information!!

Steve
