  1. Here is a pic of the blade. Like I said before it is in terrible shape. This is probably the shortest and most curved kyu gunto I have personally seen. 30 inches overall. The hamon is visible but not much else. Eric
  2. Thanks Bruce, I will post a picture of the blade but it is in a sad state. Unsigned and extremely shortened but definitely an old koto blade. The wood liner in the saya did some damage to the blade (moisture) and the wood is very fragile. Unfortunately it will probably stay this way. Not sure this would warrant a polish. The second hanger is solid not removable. One of the interesting points is that the handle seems to be made in relation to the blade length (23 in). The handle is at least 2-3 inches shorter than other type 19s I have seen with longer blades. Thanks, Eric
  3. Hello Everyone, What model of kyu gunto would this be and what would be the approximate time period? I assume this would be considered a type 19 but I am unsure. Thanks, EricY
  4. Very nice, never seen that mon before.
  5. Thanks for the detailed breakdown Jussi! If someone on the forum got this please keep us posted. Eric
  6. This sold for $7360 in case anyone didn't see it on ebay. https://ebay.us/m/l1Vamv Eric
  7. Here is a canvas cover on a type 95 NCO. Located here: https://www.baystatemilitaria.com/WWII/WWIIGermanJap.htm Eric
  8. Thank You Mal. I was just about to ask the question you answered. Has anyone seen any other examples of his work?
  9. Thank You Jan I agree the Mei is quite unusual but seems to be done well. Eric
  10. Hello Everyone, Any help with this one would be appreciated. This seems to be a really exaggerated "grass script" which is beyond my level at the moment. Thanks, Eric
  11. Hello everyone, is this signed Izumi no Kami Kaneshige? Either the translation is wrong or this has some clear differences from examples I have looked at. Thanks, Eric
  12. Thank you much Ray!
  13. Could someone help me out with this one? The style and lack of space between kanji is throwing me off. Thanks, Eric
  14. Thanks for the pics and info Rawa. I won't do the work myself just trying to find all the correct parts. I have been looking for a set of menuki with mon, but so far no luck. I asked the seller of the sword if he had any of the parts and he does not. The clasped hand sarute would look really nice on this sword. If anyone has any of those parts that they would sell for the restoration project please let me know. Thanks, Eric
  15. A question for everyone. If these are type 94 mounts would the sarute and menuki be type specific or just the standard like on a type 98? I am trying to locate parts for when I have this restored. Thanks, Eric
  16. I will take some measurements and a few more pictures this evening. I notice both swords also have quite long and curved tsuka. Eric
  17. Stunning sword John. That one looks impossible to upgrade. Eric
  18. Thanks John, I will probably send this one for restoration. I may take it to the Chicago show first to have it checked out. It is a beautiful sword to see in person. It will look amazing in full polish. Thanks, Eric
  19. Here are photos of the Mei. It is quiet a light Mei, but this seems to be quite common with this maker. The hada is almost muji-hada which I think is a kantei point for this maker. It is a rather "substantial" blade in hand. I will try to post better pictures of the blade but this is still something I am learning. Thanks, Eric
  20. I may be wrong but the centered chuso, sarute barrel that is not connected to the Kabutogane, set screw in the ishizuke, and the overall quality led me to think that these are type 94. I could be wrong. I saw some discussion here about the sarute barrels so thought it may be a good reference. I will have the tsuka re-wrapped at some point still looking around for someone to do this. Thanks
  21. Please forgive the tape. Lol
  22. Hello Everyone, I wanted to add my recent purchase. I got this off of ebay from the son in law of a gun collector. It was listed as a "WWII NCO Sword". The price was right and I knew the fittings were special but the blade turned out to be a nice surprise. Oite Efu Chōunsai Tsunatoshi An auspicious day in February, 2nd year of Koka (1845). Thanks, Eric
