  1. have not ordered with them yet but will try soon! great article! would love to meet the guy one day. KM
  2. Well the colour (patina) of the nakago's side like in picture 2 is too silvery/light in my eyes to be a true old/uncleaned patina. however i might be totally wrong there. If its suriage i cannot see that well either. Could you post a picture of the blistery patch about halfway in picture 1 bottom tanto ? Also without being able to see all cristalline structures in the photos and just from the photos alone i would say shinto and still not koto. If it was the tip of an older sword made into a tanto i am not sure about, since it looks like a normal tanto to me, not even a piece of nagamaki/naginata formed into a tanto. The Hamon going straight into the nakago is a sign it was never reheated nor retempered i think. KM
  3. Yes u are right my friend.. but in the case of millionaires it is less bad.. samurai or not.. and pro bakufu means just what it means... : Dont get me started on the traitor Meiji... KM
  4. Well looking at the top of the nakago pic, this blade has definetely been cleaned at some time and cleaning the nakago is a bad thing. Suriage i do not know, koto is not likely imho. KM
  5. Indeed the Christies auction.. shows that the crisis has hit the rich too... which makes us poor buggars smile.. KM
  6. Anyone notified the original seller yet ? or ebay? KM
  7. Tanx Erazer for the info on Mr. Collache!! Great photos bugyotsuji!!! love the armour and equipment!! I just got a great book in: The connoisseur's book of Japanese swords, by Kokan Nagayama, translated by Kenji Mishina, and for a fair price too.. KM
  8. Start using firefox and youll have no more trouble.. also tell everyone you know... KM I checked using IE7 v7.0.5730.13, no problem whatsoever.
  9. dunno... but well the price its at at the moment is way too high for a re-enactment replica.. PFFFFT it went for 102 GBP... silly.. KM
  10. I second that and must say that Brian is THE person who has the right of kiri sutei gomen on this forum. KM
  11. ............ KM
  12. On your PS: Is the US army in that bad of a shape that they need you to file teeth in order to support the war effort due to the lack of ammo ? @ Shan, take it easy, compared to other fora out there this is by far the most friendly forum there is to ask your questions, however newbie they might be, and you will get an honest opinion. KM
  13. True Brian and also Shan, you are both right, however in this case there were NO bidders..... The out of ebay offers suck bigtime, and naught can be done about it.. What i as private person hate the most is being outbid by the power/massive commercial sellers... Where i save up for months to buy a trinket i would very much like to have, they crush any bid i place by their oh i dont care lets throw in another 1000 US$ attitude... KM
  14. A sword showing hagire being papered by NTHK or NTBHK ? I know too little of the organisations to say anything certain on that but maybe Brian, Guido and a lot of others can shed some light on this.. furthermore of course, the general auction rule applies (wat de gek ervoor geeft) In Dutch meaning (what any nutter would be willing to spend on it) Auctions often do not represent value. I have worked in several of the larger auction houses as a porter when i was a student and even there sometimes the experts, on my question how they valued items, put their finger in their mouth and stuck it up in the air to feel from which direction the wind was blowing... after which they gave me a nudge nudge know what i mean say no more look..... so its fickle and it always will be. KM
  15. Well....... (and this means slamming my head into a conctrete pavement........) I came across this yesterday: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0316781657 thinking nothing of it, i noticed it had ended early a few hours later... "The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing." AFTER WHICH I FELT LIKE A GIT NOT HAVING BID ON IT...... but well, saves 99 US$ doesnt it....... ? KM i did write him an email though that i was still interested in it..... no reaction.....
  16. Wouldnt they have to split the saya for that? KM
  17. Hello all.. I was wondering, many people buy koshirae without a blade, but is it not so that whatever koshirae you buy, it has a small chance of your actual sword blade fitting in it? So, do people buy koshirae only as an aestethic form of art? KM
  18. Interesting! I came across his name also in a retempering test article online, seems to be a Satsuma shinto smith. So does this stamp signify a Daimyo's forge? Or is it a designation for a Han? KM
  19. I came across this weird looking nakago on the internet, and was wondering wether anyone has ever seen such a stamp, let alone such kanji used in a mei... looks fake to me somehow but i dont know... KM
  20. Looking at the rest of his stuff he does have some nice items indeed! and well if he refunds, whats the problem.. The more you get into this "hobby" the better you can discern what is on the photos (real/fake) KM
  21. look at the casting rim.... very bad repro.. KM
  22. TY Carlo! Well, for my Samurai re-enactment i dont need a really old one (or real) of course... ill just wait till i get lucky some other day  .. I have seen some reasonable replicas on the net, also of Jumon-ji Yari.. KM
  23. Thnx for the info Kev! How daft, i bid on it and they start up some naff age verifying screen where ebay wants your credit card number to verify you are above the age of 18... well i dont have a credit card nor will i ever again have one! ill let this one go then.. Ebay UK also is a place to shun from now on... KM
  24. I am wondering wether or not to bid on this one for re-enactment purposes but i have never seen a Yari mounting like this... it has no tang.... ?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... otohosting Any ideas? KM
  25. Personally, apart from the wall one, i love the T-shirt variety... also, having it embroidered into a patch i like a lot....... KM
