  1. At least it would be easy to remove the gimei, just needs a quick suriage along the ichi
  2. I don't think you've done that bad on the $800 wakizashi. Hard to say on the katana as the pictures arent good but I think you paid a little on the high side for it. Looks a bit tired and the geometry is messed up. Both blades need polishing really. The notches in the nakago aren't kill marks as mentioned in the auction description. I believe they are either polisher marks or old koshirae fitters marks.
  3. Someone must have more money than sense. No way ever that sword is worth $5175. You could buy a decent papered wak in full polish for that price.
  4. Yes its a very good point. It's also worth looking out for swords with removed seki/showa stamps been a few on ebay in the past few months.
  5. Yes definitely not an Ichihara Nagamitsu. But to be fair to the seller he doesn't claim it is. Both look like low quality showato. I guess someone out there collects them?
  6. Hi, Can anyone help me with the signature on this fuchi? I think the signature is Yasuda Katanori but I cannot work out what the gold mei is? Thanks, Peter
  7. After reading the post about the teppo netsuke on ebay I thought I might make some comments about netsuke and ebay. The amount of fake netsuke on ebay is really digusting. The common term they seem to use is Meiji or early 20th century. Most are really bad fakes. I would urge major caution and advise against using ebay to purchase netsuke unless you really know what you are looking for. The most important thing is to look for detail. The fakes often have poor detail on the feet and hands, they lack inlayed eyes, the himotoshi (cord opening) is placed in a position where the netsuke is inpractical to use etc... The other problem is you get sellers on the net like Buddha museum, a few real ones scattered in but mostly fake trash. This seller should be put out of business. He has downright lies on many of the listings. http://www.buddhamuseum.com/ivory-netsuke_06.html Hope this helps someone avoid buying a fake!
  8. Isopropanol should be safe to use. It will take off the oil just the same as ethanol.
  9. I have a mumei shin-shinto wakizashi and the hamon resembles tadayoshi school work a lot. The boshi and nakago are however completely wrong for Tadayoshi. The hada is a tight ko-itame with lots of ji-nie. Anyone have any ideas for Shin-Shinto smiths whose hamon resembled the Tadayoshi school? Thanks, Peter [/url]
  10. I've never had a problem shipping swords to the USA from the UK. I usually use "Antique sword over 100 years old". If you write "Japanese Work of Art" customs will sometimes open the package to see whats inside. This is when, in my experience, thefts can happen as customs never repackage things properly.
  11. I recently had Keiun Naohiro forge me this tanto via Usagiya. It was made exactly to my specifcation, it has very good midare utsuri!
  12. I once had a chromed katana in gunto mounts. Even the nakago was chromed. It was nicely signed I forget the smith. When the chrome came off underneath was a stainless steel blade. :| A few of the swords I've seen that have been chromed and had it removed have suffered badly for it. I don't think that Wakizashi on ebay is worth the expense of having the chrome removed.
  13. I finally watched all of Musashi. Not bad at all. Just a bit too much "love" like Ichi mentioned previously. I'm about half way through the NHK Yoshitsune series and this is superb!! Liking it much better than Musashi and it has some excellent battle scenes. The actor that plays Kuro Yoshitsune is just perfect in his role.
  14. I sent a small katana to Germany a few weeks ago via EMS from the UK. No problems at all and it took less than 3 days.
  15. How about this? Not a bad beginners sword for the price. https://www.aoi-art.com/auction/en/auct ... 1141534367
  16. Thanks again Moriyama san!
  17. I got mine from ebay. Region 3 Hong Kong DVD. It has english subtitles and Japanese audio.
  18. Well I finally got my parcel that was shipped accidently to the USA. In the past I know people who have phoned them to sort out problems, they apparently speak good english.
  19. Ok finally got round to watching it a few days ago. Good film, excellent special effects, well worth buying!
  20. Hi, Can anyone tell me what it says for the boshi on these papers? Also what does it say under Musashi Kuni in the remarks column. Thanks, Peter
  21. One thing I might also add is his customs labelling are very poor. He does not write antique for antique items. In countries like the UK where we have stupidly low import limits this can result in a nasty customs charge. You then have to go through the hassle of proving your item is antique and putting in a refund claim etc..
  22. Daimyou sorted it out for me. My package has been redirected from the USA to the UK. I guess if anyone has problems with them it pays to be persistent and keep emailing until they reply.
  23. What's the real story on Daimyoueb54 in Japan? I did a search on the EMS shipments and found he shipped one on the same day/time to the UK so hopefully its mine
  24. I may as well email him in latin same chance of getting a reply. Hopefully he's just given me the wrong tracking number.
