  1. Curious as to what this mei/gimei says?
  2. Hello everyone. I was just rather curious as to the APPROXIMATE age range of this Koto katana registered in Japan. After looking over the other photos, there are definitely ware kizu. Thank you
  3. Hello all. I would like some of your advice/best guesses, if this is real or gimei. Thanks.
  4. @ ChrisW. I just want to know how old the blade is, gimei or whatever.
  5. The blade is suriage and the machi-okuri. I'll post a series of separate pictures.
  6. Hello everyone. This was actually a risky purchase in the States, as the item was fairly inexpensive. It is a handachi koshirae katana. I know obviously, the nakago was shortened and the mune altered for some reason. The supposed Mei is "Hirokuni". Any ideas on the age of the blade? Thank you!
  7. Any ideas on the age of the blade. Rough guess, Shin-shinto/Edo?
  8. Hello again. Here is a other nihontou from Japan that I purchased. Definitely not as fancy as the tanto I bought, and not the best "diamonds" on the tsuka...but it is a handachi! (One of my favorite koshirae, regardless if modern or antique)
  9. Hello all. I purchased this rather nice tanto from Japan. That being said, the Mei is "Kanekado". As far as the signature being real, who knows. As a sceptic, I tend to think their gimei until proven otherwise. I know these pics give only a limited point of view, but any guesses on how old the blade MAY be? IF the Mei is real, I found Koto, Edo period and modern swordsmiths with this name. I know very little about tantos, other than the basics. Thank you. Henry
  10. Hello all, Just a quick historical inquiry: In regards to the Bushi throughout the history, their usage of the katana/uchigatana koshirae, how exactly did they tie their sageo on when not in use (resting on their katanakake)? I would assume in some pragmatic way? (other than the "display style"....sorry I don't know the name) Sidenote: I saw some old pics of Bushi during the late Bakumatsu and early Meiji period, and the way they tied their sageo on their katanakake was very simplified. Just curious. Thanks!
