Type (Tachi, Katana, Wakizashi, Tanto, Naginata, Other) : Wakizashi/O-Tanto Ubu, Suriage or O-Suriage : Soshu Ju Yasutsugu Mei : (Mumei, Signature) : Papered or not and by whom? : NBHTK (Scabbard/Fittings) & Kantei Club dated 1986 Era/Age : 1504-1521 Shirasaya, Koshirae or Bare Blade? : Shirasaya, Papered Koshirae Nagasa/Blade Length : 37.5cm Sori : Hamon Type : ubu nakago Jihada : Other Hataraki Visible : Flaws : No visible flaws, slight superficial scratches Sword Location : Calgary, Alberta, Canada Will ship to : Worldwide Payment Methods Accepted : Paypal Price and Currency : SOLD CDN Other Info and Full Description : O-Tanto, Soshu Ju Yasutsugu, w/Bonji Muramachi, Papered This is a gorgeous Wakizashi, made as a long tanto per the definition of the toguawa shogunate, however, since the blade is older than this definition, it has been forged as a long tanto or a O-Tanto. Signed Soshu Ju Yasutsugu, with a authentic signature (reference: Markus Sesko’s Sword Smith Enclyopedia, which states Yasutsugu, Eiso (1504-1521), Sagami - Soshu Ju Yasutsugu). Although not a highly recognized swordsmith, his signature is unique. The blade which is ubu nakago, has no perceivable flaws and the polish is in good shape showing activities in Hanno, good, visible. There are some scratches (superficial), with a double layered hamon in chu-siguha style with notare elements and traces of nie, may be sunagashi. Some horimono in shape of bonji and a so no kurikara, but polished down. Comes with papers, certifying that the paper is from the "Kantei Club" dated 1986 (I think). The paper was issued to Kajiwara Kōtōken, who himself was a well-known sword scholar and practitioner of martial arts. The Kantei Club issued papers from the late 80s to early 90s. Also included for the fittings and scabbard is a NBTHK certificate, certifying the scabbard as "Hozon" (worthy of preservation). While the tsuba is not signed, it is authentic and the kozuka and kogatana are both signed. The upper part of the mei from the kokuza is unfortunately unreadable, the lower part reads Matsuhiro & Kao and the mei from the kogatana reads Bishu Osafune Ju Sukesada. Measures Overall 62cm, Nagasa of 37.5cm, 3cm W x .6cm D and a curvature of .7mm. Please reach out via DM if you would like more photos of the blade. Thanks for looking!

I am having trouble finding any information on which Yuki Hide it may be. Also, if anyone has any information on where I can find a similar boy's sword, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all. Bob

Hello Gentleman I am back on this fantastic forum to ask once again for some assistance on a Wakizashi I have in my possession. It is papered. I am hoping that someone would be kind enough to help me find another sword made by this swordsmith or please translate for me the name. I am not a sword collector, so I am at a loss as to where to look. I have done some research, but to no avail. Thank you all. Bob Rae

Bob61 replied to Bob61's topic in Swords and Edged Weapons
Hi Thank you for the messages. I have tested the habaki, with my gold tester and it came out as 22kt. Of course, it is not solid, has a copper underlay. The koshaire is silver. The scabbard as well, as you can see has tons of silver and is back to it's tarnished look now. I thank you for your interest and insights. Bob -

Hello I am asking today for information from this informative and honest forum for the selling value of this sword. It was bought by my wife's late husband from Bob Lightener in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Upon my very limited understanding, this is more than likely a gimei blade and I will be selling it as this. Unfortunately, I am in a position where this beautiful akuchi must go. I however, am at a loss as to where to start for pricing. The blade is in full polish and as can be seen by the pictures, beautiful. As this is not my first post, I come to this forum with the understanding that this is not a firm evaluation, but just a opinion and will be taken as so. I am asking here because I know that this forum is filled with extremely knowledgeable people and I appreciate and value your insight. I thank you in advance for any help. Bob

Hi Mark Thank you for your response. I have fixed the problem, I hope in the google drive files, thanks for that. I am no expert, by far! Yes, Bob was on another level! He was a friend of my wife's late husband, this is her collection now. Her husband bought almost all his swords from Bob. I'm pretty sure this is gimei, as I have asked my wife and she was fully involved with the collection. I do understand about getting things papered, however, her husband was not big on this. At this time, I am looking to sell it, however, I do have other blades in the collection. This has been an issue, as I am dealing with a number of swords. Thank you for your help in regards to this, I will try to further research this. Cheers and thanks, Bob

Hello Gentleman Thank you once again for letting me join this fantastic forum. I have had nothing but a very positive experience with this forum and I truly appreciate all the help I have received. I am once again asking if anyone could be kind enough to direct me in valuing the above sword. It is more than likely gimei. The information that I have been given on the signature is Nagasone Nyudo Okisato and was purchased more than likely through Bob Lightner in Florida. It is in good polish and comes with a plain shirasaya. I realize that the prices between an original and a fake are significant, so any help would be appreciated. I am attaching google drive photos as there are quite a few. Thanking you all once again, Cheers Bob https://drive.google...gfFseHDb?usp=sharing https://drive.google...OPtwfIWC?usp=sharing

Hello Thank you everyone for your input. I have researched both names and am still a little confused. Does anyone have another example of the signature that is on the tea canister. I still cannot find anything remotely like it, other than copies of current pieces. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and Cheers Bob -
