I feel as though the condition reflects the price and brokerage. I bought a book from AOI in the past and they were very polite and easy to deal with. If this Masamune was indeed juyo grade it would not be at this price point. I question the need to offer this sword to the general public though. Do we know what generation Masamune this is?

Greetings everyone, It's been a little while now since I got involved with Nihonto and wanted to discuss with you a dilemma I'm having. I want to have a "Nihonto Exhibit" at home. How do I start? I'm not new to the collecting world as I've been a collector of various things for the majority of my life (I'm 30 now). But I've come to appreciate the artistic aspect of Nihonto. I'm also currently attending a posh liberal arts school in the New England area, and we have a museum at school with rotating exhibits. (The source of this urge.) Sincerely, Khalid

Greetings everyone, I am planning on bidding on this sword in an upcoming auction but can't seem to get clear pictures of the signature from the auction house. To me it currently looks like a Bizen blade which is my favorite school but there's no telling how it would look cleaned up. Any ideas on the signature and how do you feel about its condition? Thanks, Khalid

Hi guys, I just walked of a auction gallery and they have this sword for sale. Any idea who it's by? Hopefully it's not a fake signature again. Khalid

It's rusty with spider webbing.

Hello, I was wondering if I can get some help with verifying the Mei on my new sword. If we can descern what generation that'll be great too.

Hi Jwizz, Believe it or not the cost of polishing an 8 inch (aproximating) tanto is rather modest compared to a full length Nihonto. You have a decent habaki too. Where I live that would amount to about $1300 USD with a new shirasaya as well. It's your first one too. The question is if there's any hidden kizu lurking in the blade. Best, Khalid

Hi Kiril, Socioeconomic status plays a big role in the selling of swords. The fact that these two haven't sold yet tells me that they are an extensive project with a headache waiting to happen. You may need to fly to Japan to aquire matching fittings for them. That endeavor is preclusive enough on its own (for me). Who would do the work? How long would it take? And I'm modest enough to say that I would have to consider the financial implications of bill as well. Just some food for thought. Best, Khalid

Greetings, Can I get some help with the translation of the kanji? It seems kind of fancy and the habaki is two piece. Could this be legit? Best, Khalid

Greetings, I found this sword on eBay. I really like the hamon on it. Would you buy this sword? I think it needs some work. https://www.ebay.com/itm/135418081273?_skw=nbthk&itmmeta=01JF9ATH432SS3WHB2RM1E20WH&hash=item1f878beff9:g:hZoAAOSwbZJnTsT1&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKkK0N1ktbz%2Fwqx%2FHkQlilHtJ1Xw4HgomsgDSsHnZAbg7k2nVX1V3S49jIIsW3%2F3peCeVdo1XTQmF9tHcVpyjAvU6jti%2FjvNX2ZhQQUh3ejPn7mnehxTGhE5CucwMR%2FKEWpjSzQlds1rdI4csehZnkn3zftKvgy26be1duUunsEjoyU6fZAv86n2Ghl%2FgcM%2FUXWtmJKWgzebSgvwVflVh%2BlOsLrEZHq7DSpnKpMIyjTXRr4G9Sld9%2F1%2FnoKpcWK2wGB7dIbOSVCaRYZJqDSuGm8T|tkp%3ABFBMjJLqqvpk Best, Khalid

Another eBay find
cookiemonstah47 replied to cookiemonstah47's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
Hi Bruce, Let's suppose this is a mediocre quality gemei for now. Did smiths really take the time to replicate even kokuin and kakihan as well? I feel like if a smith is that talented they wouldn't make a forgery. But I guess they had bills to pay then too. -
Hello, I'd like to get your input on this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/387655507054?_skw=Japanese+sword&itmmeta=01JED0EYS5EGAFQAXGH3FF6RVM&hash=item5a42119c6e%3Ag%3A-WMAAOSwISpmx5D8&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKmUE%2BTToZLR%2FeLRD5u%2FA0l0V7MzzBsKanbMJM7BMkUBLQsxt3N13R7WtoskM3pNUYXNFSbX00mt9aMBbxGogNeEVIdFvVuKjM5dnpiuN3KPob7Kzl2wtLt9PIpXwLFX9YAuMbbfMKnhD4HQ1vq7LDapR7fq%2FjR00S5QWh%2Brna484Oxdow6c0CfTSfMjbU0rfa0pynNRV0hepWEXT5Z8P9r0RZaisVDwlt8gQLuaP5XeJcolBcH9sw6%2F8WYScwUcuow%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR9jsu6DzZA&LH_Auction=1&LH_ItemCondition=4 Thanks, Khalid

Greetings everyone, I bought a Japanese sword in WWII mounts from an auction a while ago (see link below). So I decided to send it out to be looked at a along with two other swords by Jimmy. Long story short the other two swords didn't pass muster for various reasons. He really liked this one though. Upon scrupulous inspection it appeared to be an Oei-Bizen sword. That's all I know for now. I did ask for a Sashikomi -style polish. Then wisdom was bestowed upon me. So apparently swords that come back with upper-level papers are done in Keisho-style polish for a reason. It's described as being an art sword's makeup before the show. There's nothing wrong with traditional Sashikomi like what I asked for, but it's like looking into a mirror. It's shows everything. I would still love to have it done in Sashikomi but I do intend to submit it for papers. I look forward to bringing you along on my journey. Peace, Khalid P.S. Hello, I wanted to ask what your go to oil for swords is? I use a variant of a G96 product. I drench the blade with oil, let it sit for 15 minutes (amount of time needed for the oil to bind) then dry the excess. I’ve used many oils on blued firearms in the past, most tend to discolor and/or even evaporate rather quickly leaving red rust behind. Best, Khalid

Hello, This reminds me of the Nio-Den a little bit. It has a very calm hada. The bo-hai gives it some character too. Best, Khalid

Hello, Do we have anyone stateside that can send a sword out for a Syagaki? I was wondering if I can have that done along with NBTHK shinsa paperwork. Just a thought, Khalid P.S. Here's a picture of what I have in mind.

Help with 2 character mei

Of course, I love penny auctions too. Feel free to partake (see link below). I wouldn't go higher than $800ish USD on something like this. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1062427148 -
Help with 2 character mei

Yikes, I have some reading to do. -
Hello, I stumbled into this blade and would like to get some help with the mei. It's only two characters and from WW2. Thanks, Khalid

Good morning all, I was wondering if there is such a thing as a gendaito masterwork from the WWII era? The variance in blade quality from this period is astounding. Thanks, Khalid
