It is my opinion that the blades being sold by this eBay dealer are modern, and the mei is added to each blade then dipped in vinegar to produce the dark patina.
I say this based on A) the line on the nakago top toward blade in every one of the blades has the tell tale rusty etch, and B) the tagane (chisel strokes) are raised meaning they are freshly cut.
thats my two cents
Conway, thank you for your reply. Do we know of pictures of other examples of this Gunto fuchi having a police (or ?) cast onto it and not used as a button? The application here being like a mon maybe? But I have not seen any like this on a gunto. More work to be done….thank you again
Hello to you all, I have a gunto by Seki Kanemitsu that has this fuchi I believe may be iron. What is the emblem it shows…police? I haven’t seen this one on any gunto I have collected and seen before and it’s not on Ohmura that I can see.
Regards and thanks for any help.
Ron
Hello all, I have a Nijimei Kaigunto signed Kanetada with NO stamp and appears to be a gendaito. I have received the same opinion from Ray Singer.
see attached photos, can provide more
Hello to you all again, I have a tanto with lots of kirikomi on the mune. It was given as a gift to an officer (sayagaki states such) but I am wondering a) why they were done, how? And b) of some for testing then was the blade or even blades ruined? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thank you
I was wondering, any thoughts or speculation on a) if the saya and sayagaki were made at the time when this sword was put into the shrine, and b) when the shrine’s sayagaki was added to the lower area? As well, wondering how it left the shrine itself.
respect to all
Hello, this kanji is on the Tsuka of a shirasaya for a tanto I have. I have lost the original meaning of this and could use some help if possible. Thank you in advance
