Do we know anything about the smith "Yukihira"? Sounds like a good deal from what you have shown thus far.
Per Japanese sword index he is rated Chu Saku. (Medium made). Not superior quality, but a decent blade nonetheless

Please PM for additional pictures (unless anyone has any idea to get past the file size limit)

WWII Gunto sword. In decent shape signed by Sato Yukihira. This sword comes from the Seki prefecture and was made in 1942(ish) - My guess, feel free to chime in. Comes with type 98 koshirae also in decent shape. Some corrosion and rust spots on the tsuba and seppa. Tassel is period original, but certainly not original to the sword. Please feel free to ask any questions. Asking $1600 but will consider offers and will sell the sword without the tassel for $1300 obo. 5-10% of this sale will be donated back to NMB

Nice haul and great pieces! Wish I loved closer to Chicago. I will have to fly in and go to the show some day!

I'd suggest buy from the dealers here. Reputable, knowledgeable with proven track record and guaranteed quality. No offense to the Japanese dealer, he had a Yosozaemon Sukesada Yari I missed few weeks back... most is out of polish considerably overpriced
Cheers
John
I can second this. I have only recently gotten into nihonto. I actually looked at this my blade... Definitely seems a bit overpriced for what it is. Daimyou54 has decent stuff pop up every once in awhile it seems. However, I recently bought from Rain Dragon (David Stiles) and Grey Doffin. They are listed under the dealer showcase on here. Transactions were smooth and I was very pleased with what I got from both of them. Absolute pleasure to work with!! I would stick with them or other dealers here.

Hey all,
Sorry for spamming the board with some not so pretty swords. Im more curious about this sword rather than interested in buying. Seller claims it is from the Kamakura period (mei is Nagamitsu). I dont like the nakago. Maybe the pictures, but seems too clean? I would curious about the signature. Appears to be on the right side for Kamakura? What do blades in this time period typically go for? I dont see them pop up very often from reputable dealers, which also throws up flags for me

I kindly disagree, several mekugi ana are not a proof of suriage, the location of the mei, the path taken by the nakago shinogi and the nakago jiri suggest that this sword is ubu.
There are several Nagamitsu even if we can exlude THE Nagamitsu
Jason,Measurements will be helpful (nagasa, sori, motohaba, moto kasane etc.).
Nagasa: 70cm(27.56in)Saki-haba 1.9cm(0.75in)Saki-gasane 0.5cm(0.2in)Moto-haba 3.1cm(1.22in)Moto-gasane 0.8cm(0.31in)Shirasaya full length 105cm(41.34in)Sori curve 2cm(0.79in)measurements from the seller... -

Lol. I have a KA-Bar knife myself. It was like maybe $75 or so? Cant remember what I paid for it, but it is one of my favorite knives. But $400? What a fool. Yeah, I found his videos before I even started collecting nihonto, I could tell right off the bat, that this guy didnt know what he was talking about.

I was gonna start hitting him hard in the comments! Luckily he doesnt have too large of a following!

Dear Joe.
There are several reasons for shortening a sword and no way of telling which one applies to this sword. What is it's length now?
All the best.
The overall length is 96.5 cm or 38 inches. The blade length is 25.2 inches- about 64 cm. The width is about 3.1 cm or 1.2 inches.

I can’t authenticate it but it reads “Bishu Osa...”. Unfortunately the rest of the signature was cut off when the blade was shortened.
So this is a sword made at a place called Osafune in Bizen province. It’s a place well known for sword manufacture pre-1600 (and again a couple of centuries later) but it’s likely that this blade is one of the mass-produced blades made for the wars of this time. So probably earlier than Edo period.
Do you think it was period cut to meet regulations etc.? Also thanks for the response!

Was anyone aware that this seller also has a YouTube channel?? I would guess this is the same guy, I have read some pretty poor things about him.

Absolutely, I will definitely start searching. Thanks all for the responses, I really appreciate it and am certainly learning! Now time to invest in some literature.
