  1. Delightful reading! Interesting , almost captive as all the responders show personality and character of themselves and their swords....
  2. LOL! I love it ! It definitely needs polish, but blade has a couple rough spots on cutting edge and of course the tsuka. Two year wait ?! Historical value means more to me than dollar value. I don't have to sell it but stupid for me to keep it, if I can find the best home for it whether it be a private collector or museum.... Especially for Historical reasons.
  3. BTW- The tsuba is 3/8 inches thick. Also, read something about origami... would or could this sword qualify? I'm kind of thinking No...
  4. Yes, Thank you also, Thomas! You guys have been really great and so informative. Actually Bruce, I think it needs a little more TLC than just the handle. The blade needs some TLC also. Is there someone in New Jersey that can give this sword the attention it needs?
  5. I am mostly a collector of hunting knives. Fixed Blades. Some folding , pen Knives. Also a collector of Mechanical Pocket watches. Mostly  Railroad  watches.

  6. But to think that my Dad's friend was more interested in value than Preservation is astounding! This Sword has spent more than 25 years in a closet ! It has lasted longer than my my Mom and Dad, may they rest in peace....
  7. Like I said, from what I've read here, not a complete sword, but blade, I think in good shape. Missing the " dowel" for the handle. Not sure if there are any other numbers on the pieces of handle.
  8. I asked for Translation and yes, he said 1938. I'm not sure , due to being a novice, but I will provide any pics I can. I am pretty sure it isn't top notch, but in fair condition. Give me till tomorrow for most of pics as the light is better in daylight. I will try and post some tonight.
  9. Not at all. What would you like to see? Remember, I'm a newbie. I would have to look up proper terminology, lol!
  10. The "H" almost looks like the earlier capital "I" I've seen on these posts regarding the SMR. ( if you look at it the opposite way)
  11. Hi there! I have been browsing the topic. Very interesting! So, I just posted a few photos of a Mantetsu. Serial Number H14. Seen any others with an "H" ?
  12. Not in great shape, but funny story. My father received another sword from a friend. His friend decided that the first sword was more significant, so he gave my father this one, LOL.
  13. Thank you John ! I was leaning that direction but just know very little, other than what I've read online the last few days. Are you aware of any other " stamps" on these swords ? IE: On the edge of the na sago ?
