    Help With Armor

Hi Fellow collectors: Looking forward to help a friend with a Kabuto (check previous post) I found this armor + kabuto and mempo in a local dealer and I would like to have the opinion of experienced fellow collectors in the forum. So far I have been foccused on Nihonto only but this item caught my attention. According to the dealer this is an Edo period piece from Fukuoka. Any additional information that an experienced colleague can provide will be highly regarded. Javier

    Help With Kabuto

Hi I almost do not have any knowledge about samurai armor and a friend is asking me for some advice regarding this Kabuto. My concern is that looks really new and I do not have any experience in order to determinate if it is a reproduction, fake, Modern or even a restored antique item. According to the person that is selling the item this is an Edo period Kabuto, could someone more experienced please provide me more information? Thanks Javier
  3. Thank you Uwe and Dave!

  11. Hi I am attaching a few pictures from an interesting koshirae, this piece belongs to a small Japanese collection in the National Weapons Museum located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to the description this piece is a Shirisaya (Bear skin) no Tachi. I saw that this type of saya was discussed in the forum in the past. Some details about the blade inside this koshirae: Jidai: Nanbokucho Ubu Nakago, Nagasa 94cm length, Kissaki: Hirazukuri. Mei: AISHYU-SHYU AKIHIRO Date: December 1369 Unfortunately I still was not able to see the blade outside the saya, but probably I will be able in a time soon and for sure will provide some pictures. Javier

  13. Hi I have been "low profile" a member of this great forum since 2013 but an active reader more focused in nihonto than in katchu. I am currently having the opportunity to buy my first kabuto and mempo. I am posting a few pictures of the items since I would appreciate to receive the opinion of fellow members with knowledge in this subject In particular I would like to know if the pieces match, also if possible the type of kabuto, the period and overall condition. Any other information will be highly appreciated Best regards Javier
  14. From what I remember from the web Mike from Tetsugendo has a Ko Aoe Ko wakizashi while Nihonto.ca, AOI, Arizonaskies, Sanmei and world.choshuya have AOE blades from late kamakura/ Nambokucho not Ko Aoe. Best regards Javier
  15. Hello colleagues as mentioned in my previous posts I am beginner in nihonto and new owner of a humble tired and rusted wakizashi with delaminations but I am really interested in learning more about it. The blade is o-suriage with three mekugi ana, ihori-mune, chu-kissaki The jihada looks itame The hamon looks notare with nioi The boshi is very difficult to discern Any additional imput and guidance will be highly apreciated, I understand that from the pictures is very hard to tell but if possible I will also apreciatte any help in determinating if the blade is koto, shinto, etc period and also if possible school. best regards Javier

  17. Hy Colleagues I bougth my firts nihonto in the last SF Token Kai I am a beginner I have been reading books for the last three years but all of them were more foccused in blades than in sword mountings, that´s why I was looking foward to see If more exrienced colleagues can help me providing me any information about the period, style, materials, etc of the tsuba, menuki and Fuchi. 18. [Hi Coleagues, I am the owner of a Kanbun sword signed IYETADA (nijimei=two character signature) from Kaga province, that has some black inscriptions that are not in good condition. However I was looking foward to see if someone can help me with the translation total or partial of those black inscriptions or at least with some additional information since I would really like to undertand the reason and meaning of those inscriptions. I am attaching some pictures and a very basic hand copy of "my understanding" of those inscriptions, probably it is not accurate since they are not in good shape and I do not know anything about Japanese languaje. Best regards, Javier.-
