  10. Thanks very very much for the help, Steve.
  11. Guido, I agree without be completely with your opinion. The signature on this stuba look like scratche with a sharp tool, I agree, it's appears to be a poor attempt to emulate someone's name, and as you can see, it differs from the second tsuba .Regarding the fact that it's a cast chinese tsuba, I do not agree. I begin to clean it and the character is neither glue or weld but inlay on the plate, as the constellation. If you look more carefully to the rest of the pattern, the work for the Matsu is thin and well made, hand make like the waves. But I agree with you again when you say that it's not the finest piece I see in Japan. The 10, I will see a Japanese friend to examine it with me and let you know the verdict.
  12. Thanks Bernard.
  13. Thanks Kurt Guido, could you develop ? (Edit Admin - I think he means elaborate)
  14. Hi every one, I found yesterday this two daisho tsuba, the first dragon pattern, the second philosopher or thinker watching a constellation. both are signed. The seller told me they were silver plated. How do I clean them? The products found in stores make me a little afraid, the traditional method with lemon + salt ............. is it not too aggressive? Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanking you all in advance. Christophe

  17. Hi every one, I just buy a tsuba and when I transled the mei, I have Kahe Umetada. I searched the name of the smith in th book of Markus Sesko : Signatures of Japanese Sword Fittings Artists, I found Umetada (page 583). The signature look like the same for Umetada but nothing for Kahe. Did I make a mistake in the translation ? or if this smith exist, did someone have informations about it ? Thanks very much for helping me about that. Christophe

Did we have to send the item before (in my case a tsuba), or just bring it to them? Thanks very much for your help. Christophe
  20. Hi Geraint. thank you for your opinion. I do not have the attention to buy it, it was just curiosity, and especially surprise. A friend just tell me that may be the "tsukamaki" was put after, and that the iron part followed suit in a wooden handle, like a traditional spear. "Hand make weapon" that we can sometime found in the countryside and used by farmers to repel attacks. Maybe another trail ? I will try to found more info. Hi Malcom I visited several museum dedicated to the whaling. Taiji Whale Museum as a Wakayama, and I have not seen an object like the, I do not think it is linked to the whaling. Thank you for taking the time to answer me. Christophe
