Fuuten, Normally I would have included a picture of the bottom but in this case it is covered with a very old piece of felt and since you can tell the bottom is hollow I didn't feel it would be hiding a signature. Thank goodness it is hollow because it is extremely heavy leading me to think it's bronze because I've never seen brass this heavy. Howard Dennis

Acquired this bronze monkey yesterday because he seemed like he needed a new home. I don't know if he is vintage or not. To my eye his original purpose would have been to hold a pocket watch when not in use which would most likely date him to Victorian times, When I got him home the wife suggested a different job for him. He's holding our child's inro acquired several years ago. I think he looks like he was designed for just this purpose. What do you guys think? Howard Dennis

Thanks for the effort Uwe, here's a reply I received on an Asian art forum, (呂 "Lü" is a typical Chinese surname. 权 "Quán" is a given name. This is the simplified form of character of 権 which is not used in Japan) Howard Dennis

Thanks John, I purchased this from a consignment shop as a small collection with cabinet that appears to have been collected in the middle of the last century. The two okimono's seem to be the last pieces added. They are large and total almost a pound of ivory. Howard Dennis

Another modern piece. While looking at this through magnification trying to see the ivory lines I stumbled across this signature hidden in the kimono pattern. Have never seen the signature hidden before. Thank You, Howard Dennis

Baka Gaijin, Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out with this. I really love when I can get an artist's name and info when I add a piece to my collection. This one was a good buy but looked like it might have had some corrosion issues. I was pleasantly surprised to find it had been coated with clear lacquer to try to make it look shinier. A little lacquer thinner and some polish and it looks almost new with no corrosion nor loss of patina and thanks to you I also know who made it. Howard Dennis
