  1. So I decided to pick this one up at a bargin price since it has a little bit of an area of loose steel towards the kissaki. I'm a little confused in that there is no boshi line but the blade is in a decent old polish and the geometry does change towards the kissaki and seems to have been made this way no just worn out??I posted some pictures of the sayagaki and close up pics of the blade.Any thoughts?
  2. Hey thanks Grey you've come through once again!...I see what you mean it's close but maybe not close enough...I'm most likley going to have a look at this one tommorrw.I believe there is some remnant of a sayagaki but the pictures I have are not clear at all so I will get some better ones and post maybe this will help?
  3. Wow ... Atleast I got the H right lol ...
  4. Ok I'm trying here...Could this read Hira.....Yoshi??It seems I have a lot of trouble matching up the actual stylized hand written kanji to the one used for reference But maybe I got one atleast??

    kunitoshi

Yes the pics are from his archives I believe and I agree .. It really is a beautifull sword and great photography!! I was just browsing the archives and came across the sword and it remindined me if the sword I have. I'm sure they are in completely different styles since I'm so new to this I still can't see most of the intricate details. But they just looked similar to my untrained eye and mine is a kuni??? Lol.

Chris.... Of course I'm going to have some experienced people look at it .The next chance I'll have won't be for atleast a month or so. I'm just trying to spark some conversation ect..

    kunitoshi

Hi all, Is it possible this could be a kunitoshi??I've been poking around looking for posssibilites for this blade to me its looks similar or is this just my wishful thinking lol!!! :dunno:I posted this sword before in translation asst. mei reads kuni....?? has been suggested it may be shinto which would mean not kunitoshi Mine:kuni???tsugu, toshi, tada?? kunitoshi: mine: kunitoshi:
  8. So is it would it be proper if in order to remove the chip to loose the entire hamachi?? I did some digital manipulation of the image and if you move the exact same blade line up it will take out the chips but leave only the slights bit at the hamachi..
  9. Sorry about all the flipping These were the pic I was able to get from the seller so I'm not sure if they were mirriored to begin with,I will be getting some more soon.Stephen I feel like it's almost an obligation to take on the resoration of these swords.Maybe I'm a little crazy but it feels like a crime to leave them to rot into obscurity.....I guess I'll pick this one up and hold on to it,send it to shinsa and get the funds to properly restore it if it comes back good from shinsa. p.s So I is signed tachi mei or no?? Now I'm confused I thought It was katana mei if you unfold it
  10. Yup I agree...... boy this collecting sure does get costly!lol Given the condition assuming the Mei is good what do you think a fair price would be??1000-1400?? less more I'm not sure.. I basically know the some of the cost involved it repair but not sure what the end product could be worth...
  11. So I guess the question would be what this sword could be worth in terms of resale after bening polished? Not to make money but to recoupe the money put into it if the need arises, as often times money can suddenly become in short suppuly these days!
  12. that is what I thought but being so close to the machI..( correct me if I'm using the wrong term) how would you remove it with out taking the edge way down leaving next to nothing at the ha machi??
  13. So Mark do you think it can be saved?
  14. lol I didn't even think to flip the fliped Mei My bad sorry guys....
  15. HI all, Is this translation I was given correct.... satsuma kuni masafusa??I havent found much under that exact name? Does this wakizashi look to be salvageable with the chip so far down the blade? It's being offered to me at a reasonable price but would it be worth anything with the damge,I dont know enough to make a call on this one any advice?
  16. I forgot to mention the nagasa is quite long at just under 28" is this normal for a generic Sukesada school blade?
  17. It's not ground but it's been Very lightly sanded. There's no change to the geomtry if you sight down the length of the blade it appears mirror smooth. You can barely feel it it looks way worse in pictures but It will need to be polished out. Now I have to determine if it's financially warranted? It's in full gunto mount with original tassel still attached. I'm not sure what a generic Sukesada is worth financially or historically ?
  18. I see so what would be the best way to narrow it down? How should I go about this?I think learning how to do this is most important to us newer collectors.I've posted a few pic below not sure if these would help to narrow down which sukesada I have if mei is good....
  19. boy was I off huh.Well at least I'm trying now I'ts starting to come together a little....very little hahaSo does this look like a good mei or Gimei ?The blade it's self feels good but has some condition issues that need attending.
  20. So I've been working on my kanji reading am I even close??Also does this mei look sloppy/choppy or is it something else age ect?If anyone could help me fill in the blanks that would be great lol! 15....1...year...1...month...made?? bizen...no...kami...tami/toki....??....???
  21. So can anyone tell me if this blade is either the victim of one too many polishes or is it a ito suguha type hammon, combination of both? I've read that some yamashiro blades were forged with extremly thin hammon to keep the blades flexible when combating heavy armor.I'm trying to ascertain if this blade would have any value to be preserved even with such little hammon left,I would think historicaly I should do something for it or maybe not? Also does anyone have a link to an oshigata for 1st gen yoshitsugu?
  22. Yes I agree...Im not sure either but I got it realitivly cheap a bit of a gamble but the best my budget could afford lol.I plan on brining to the next club meeting to get some expert opinions on it.
  23. Hi, I recently picked this up I believe the mei starts yoshitsugu....??I think it's from early to late kamakura based on the sugata? Also it has a anna drilled high it's in the habakimoto area (I think thats the term)..I know that has to effect it"s condition but by how much ? Can it be cosmetically filled?Any thoughts on whish yoshitsugu this would be? nagasa=72cm nagako=18cm
