    koto wakizashi

So I picked up this 52 cm nagasa wakizashi for the price of a good NYC dinner for two today....I'm thinking it's Koto from the patina on the nagako and the "softness" of the steel. It's a little ruffed up but nothing major all surface blemishes. It looks to me to have a fukura which is not rounded much leading me to believe it's an early koto blade or been reshaped? maybe I'm just not seeing correctly??I think it's O-mokume hada??Can anyone let me know if I'm at at all correct here? I"m looking for some opinions on school era ect ect... and I know there's a lot of opinions on here so please feel free LOL!!! Thanks-
  4. So does anyone think the blade fits a kaga iyetada school style??I really like this one and may send it out for a polish it's it really good shape despots the staining and scuffs no flaws to speak of at all that I can see...I mean would the blade merit the work not to turn a quick profit but as an art sword and investment.

    Concave tsuba

Can anyone tell me if it is acceptable for the center of the tsuba to be clean? I seems like the gunk/grease that was caked on the blade was soaked into a leather spacer and removed the patina or is it possible there was never one there to begin with??would someone be able to tell me what the Menuki are? They look like bobby pins to me......
  8. would anyone be able to suggest another Iyehiro?? I've posted a couple of additional pictures after wiping of all the old resin/or cosmoline it smelled like turpentine when i used a bit of 91%isopropyl to loosen the gunk.
  9. So when signature is close but not exact match does that exclude it from being done by the same hand? I cant see someone faking a average smith right?Maybe a student or just a variation of the smiths handwriting.

    Concave tsuba

Hi, I have a few questions about this tsuba as to school age ect and the way it is to be mounted?Would it be mounted like an umbrella or up like a flower??I have little knowledge when it comes to tsuba,I'm only recently starting to appreciate them. Also what could the anna be filled with is it brass alloy or gold alloy? Any thoughts on this would be helpful please excuse the pics as I did not take them the patina looks completly different from the side shot vs the front shot...

    Kanesugi?

Would anyone be able to post the listing in hawley kan2295.I'm pretty new to the art compared to most on this board,is the large wood grain difficult to produce or would a more sublte style be the harder of the two to achieve and does this fit the Bungo style I'm a little confused as to the charicteristics of hada for a bungo sword and in general...

    Kanesugi?

Yes something about this one felt nice to me for a shinshinto piece.it seemed to me to have a very pleasing balanced form.it's in a nice gusto mount with a grazing bullet hit which pierced the tsuba and ever so slightly nicked the slightest edge of the blade a very close call . I wonder if the owner was as lucky!
