shibeni Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 Hello, I would just like to ask if this NBTHK Tokubetsu paper looks "normal". It has hand written serial number in right corner and no second oval stamp in oshigata paper? As I know all serial numbers are stamped. Thank you very much for help, Bojan S. Quote
Jean Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 http://www.nihontocraft.com/japanese_sword_papers.html Old paper replaced by H, TH, Juyo .... 1 Quote
shibeni Posted May 11, 2013 Author Report Posted May 11, 2013 Hello, I know that is an old paper Koshu Tokubetsu Kicho Ninteisho, but I never seen paper with handwritten serial number and oshigata of sword that has no oval second seal..? I was reading old post about faked Tokubetsu papers. Thank you Jean for replay, Bojan S. Quote
Jean Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 Hi Bojan, IMHO, it is not a Koshu Tokubetsu Kicho Ninteisho but a simple Tokubetsu Kicho Ninteisho. In the example given by Denis on his website (it is a kozuka) there is only one stamp on the Oshigata. Denis writes concerning the two seals: it is stamped on two different items at the same time (the paper and the photo). Each half of the seal matches the other. The purpose of this is to discourage counterfeit photos (or papers). Quote
Pete Klein Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 Jean is correct in his assesment. Koshu Tokubetsu Kicho origami was aqua coloured, with the NBTHK Dragon Head watermark middle right center. This is most likely earlier, possibly from a regional branch, as a Tokubetsu Kicho paper, which 'might' explain the written in number. All of this was done away with in the early 1980's. PS: A grain of salt is necessary here. Quote
shibeni Posted May 11, 2013 Author Report Posted May 11, 2013 Hi, yes, it was my mistake puting wrong naming of Tokubetsu. So hand wrtited serial should not be a problem in posted example? Probably regional NBTHK branch. Thank you Jean and Pete for replay! Bojan S. Quote
Pete Klein Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 Honestly, I would not place too much credence into any paper of this manner. Much has changed in the last forty years and I would rather place my bet on more recent thinking. Much has been learned since this paper was written and some 'peccadilloes' have been removed. Quote
