Andi B. Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 Hello, I have here a nice set of Fuchi/Kashira showing the race of Sasaki Takatsuna and Kajiwara Kagesue across the River Uji. The ground is shakudo, some pillars seem to be copper, the face could be silver. My question is, how the golden parts were applied? Is this the shakudo ground gilded with amalgam? Or are these inlays or foil coated? I'm facinated how small the details are and curious about how these miniatures were created... Quote
Mantis dude Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Buy a jewelers loupe! I was amazed when I purchased one and what could be seen that I didn't see with my eye. I found a loupe that has 2 powers with each side having its own led light for only a few bucks (under $10) on amazon. It was well worth the few bucks and it is fun to see the details really closeup. Actually gives me even more respect for the artists ability to produce details in such a minute way. Quote
Soshin Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 Hi, I would agree with Ken W. comment. I found a small hand magnifier very helpful in my study of tosogu. Yours truly, David Stules Quote
