pcfarrar Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 Hi, Can anyone help with the mei on this tsuba? It came on a wakizashi I got recently. I think it could be Masahiro? Thanks, Peter Quote

pcfarrar Posted September 10, 2006 Author Report Posted September 10, 2006 Thanks Rich, the guy I got it from said it was a Masahiro tsuba. So I just assumed that was what the mei read oops. What does the very top kanji mean if the bottom 2 are shoami? Thanks, Peter Quote
Rich T Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 all 3 equal Shôami Peter. 正 = Shô 阿 = a 弥 = mi I think we have all done that Masahiro thing at one time or another. Cheers Rich Quote
pcfarrar Posted September 10, 2006 Author Report Posted September 10, 2006 Thanks again Rich! Do you have any idea of the approximate age of this tsuba? Peter Quote
Bungo Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 is that the " polite " way to say Shoami ? Milt O Quote
Rich T Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Thanks again Rich! Do you have any idea of the approximate age of this tsuba? Peter Hi Pete, I would guess mid to late Edo, iron Shoami guards of the earlier times were mostly well worked and Tsuchime was a noteable trait. This looks pretty homogenous. I could be wrong but gut feeling says mid Edo. Rich Quote
