NihontoEurope Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Hi all, I am trying to find out what school/smith this would/could be; a hira zukuri wakizashi. I strongly believe that the nagako is ubu since it is very thick. Special features: Motogasane: 10mm Hamon at the boshi is differs of each side. I want to do as much research I can on my own, but need a push in one or two directions. I have read somewhere that some Bizen smith/s or school/s made swords with different hamon at the boshi. Two questions: Based on the nakago. What school/s could this be? [EDIT]Based on the different turnback hamon at the boshi. What school/s could it be? /Martin Quote
cabowen Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Need more pictures- the blade, boshi, hamon, etc... Quote
NihontoEurope Posted November 13, 2011 Author Report Posted November 13, 2011 A fresh one here... If you have an answer, please only give a hint. /Martin Quote
NihontoEurope Posted November 13, 2011 Author Report Posted November 13, 2011 ...adding more. /Martin Quote
runagmc Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Does the hamon disappear into the nakago? Could it be suriage? Mabey the hi were added after shortening... the only thing is the suguta is more common in wakizashi. As far as the boshi being slightly different, I think you can find things like that in any school. The kaeri (turnback of boshi) on the ura didn't form as well during yaki-ire. Quote
runagmc Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Oh, and by the way, it's not hira zukuri.. Quote
NihontoEurope Posted November 13, 2011 Author Report Posted November 13, 2011 Adam, Thank you for the comments and observations. You have a very good and trained eye! /Martin Quote
runagmc Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 No problem. Glad to add my perspective... As far as school goes, I would only be able to take a stab in the dark, so I'll leave that to somebody else... Quote
