peter Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 Hello ALL, I recently went to England from Northern ireland and posted 2 wakizashi and 2 katana a few days earlier to show some friends when i got over, i never had ant problems with the postal in the past, i showed the blades to some members of the Northern To-Ken society when they had a room at the Birmingham military show, nice guys and had good things to say about the blades, on my way home i had no time to post the blades again and had to check them in at the airport, i explained what they where and the reasons for having them with me and security was fine, on landing in Belfast the Wakizashi tube came out of the carousel but the Katana tube did not, Chounsai Tsunatoshi and a Bungo Tomoyuki, after a lot of let say "discussion", and a mountain of stress i got them back 8 hours later, So to the reason for the post, if the worst had of happened, how do you prove the worth of such items? also does house insurance cover them even if they are on the policy? Has any mishaps such as this happened to other NMB members? Peter Quote
pcfarrar Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 also does house insurance cover them even if they are on the policy? You need to check the terms of your insurance policy as sometimes they only cover a fixed amount eg. up to £5,000 when they are outside of your house. You can get specialist insurance policies but the prices are sky high. Ideally you would need to get them valued by a dealer and have a written appraisal for each sword. Sounds like you would be better off getting the ferry in future! Quote
peter Posted September 19, 2011 Author Report Posted September 19, 2011 Thank you Peter. That is a strong option, i had a great day at the show with your colleagues, i had no idea they where upstairs all day while i was down until Mr Norman told me, application form and cheque should be with Chris by now, i will enquire into your insurance suggestions as for a dealer to value them i could do with your guidance on that 1 also, Peter Quote
