hd1972 Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 In the pictures on the link below, I believe the blade to be a Kaga Shinto blade. It is mumei. But that is all I know any comments or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You! Whole length 23" 58.5cm Blade length 17.1" 43.5cm Blade width 1.1" 2.7cm http://daimyou54.web.infoseek.co.jp/K-295/index.htm Quote
Mark Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 is this something you own or is for sale? The nakago looks Kaga hard to say much about the blade in currant condition Quote
hd1972 Posted January 26, 2011 Author Report Posted January 26, 2011 I am a German WWII sword/knife collector for 20+ years, but have been wanting to learn more about Japanese swords (not an easy task) and this is my first attempt at collecting (probably poorly). I purchased this blade but it probably is not worth restoring and I was just looking for any comments or information. Thanks for your response. Mike Quote

Jim B Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 I'm only a maintenance contractor but the duct tape and aluminum rustoleum paint do look familiar. Quote
Nihonto Chicken Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Normally I'd recommend using a lot of uchiko to knock back the rust and bring out some of the activity, but this blade has been so thoroughly raked with large grit sandpaper that I doubt mere uchiko will do much to clarify the situation. I'm guessing it needs a window opened to see what's there. Sigh. Quote
drbvac Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 If it is still for sale - I'd pass - the photos indicate a very badly treated blade and a taped up saya - if not and you own it I am not even sure I would spend the money to open a window on a mumei wak looking this battered Quote
