Lindus Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Perhaps my previous on this was too lighthearted, the Toshi Haru mei seems to be genuine but as I have said befor I was never a keen student of fittings and have little on the subject, Question is (A) have I got the translation correct?. (B) Is he one of the founders of the Ko Nara School?. Ford, are you there?? you were about at the time......... Regards Roy Quote
docliss Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Dear Roy There has been a sad lack of response to your query regarding the mei on your fuchi. I agree that TOSHIHARU is the correct reading, and Haynes lists three artists using these kanji, of whom two are possible attributions. Of these two the second, H 10318.0, appears to be the most likely artist of your piece, the mei being very like that illustrated as T305 in Joly’s Shosankenshu. This artist is described as atudent of Fujita Toshinaga, and was working in the second half of the nineteenth century. Nara Toshiharu, working in the second half of the seventeenth century is a much less likely attribution. In reply to your second question, Ko Nara work should include the work of the first four masters – N.Toshiteru, N.Toshimune, N.Toshiharu and N.Toshinaga, their students and co-workers. N.Toshiharu was the first of these artists to sign his work. John L. Quote
Lindus Posted September 6, 2010 Author Report Posted September 6, 2010 Hallo John Odd that after owning and ignoreing pieces for many years that now I am selling my "Collection" it has renewd and also highlighted my interest/lack of study in aspects of the hobby. Today {Much to my wifes horror} I have spent looking through books and catalogues such as the masterpieces from the Compton collection & the three auction catalogues from the sale of his bundle of joy,Sasano,The Boston museum collection and the Carlo Monzino sales as well as a number of others. Perhaps this and the recent find of the Warabite with the feed back from Carlo will add another few years of interest......who knows. Thank you. PM sent. Roy Quote
