Logan Samurai Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 Hoping someone can ID maker of this sword and aprox value and date of mfg. Thank you. Quote
YourBabyBjornBorg Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 This is weird, I can't find anything about a smith named 井戸兼弘 Ido Kanehiro as in the picture. This does look like a WWII sword if it's not a fake one, and there was a WWII smith named 兼弘 Kanehiro, so that might be the answer. Value is best estimated with sophisticated pictures, but a WWII sword like this without its fitting goes around 1000~2000 US dollars in the Japanese market...? Ah! There was a post talking about a similarly signed sword. https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/8498-ww2-sword/ The signature of your sword looks a little weaker than the one in that post, and that could be a sign of a counterfeit sword from, um, yeah...... But I'm not familiar with WWII swords, so this could still be genuine. May we see its fitting and the blade? 2 Quote
Logan Samurai Posted August 9 Author Report Posted August 9 (edited) I'm only able to post one pic at a time. I'll try and post the other pics. Edited August 9 by Logan Samurai Quote
Logan Samurai Posted August 9 Author Report Posted August 9 Does the name Toshimitsu Ido (AKA Shunzu Ido) relate to this signature? I'm unable to add more pics to this link, can email if interested. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted August 9 Report Posted August 9 In addition to that one owned by @MacDeuce, I have two others on file. One with no date posted by @IJASWORDS, Showa stamped; and one posted by @Bas, a 1941 with large Seki stamp. Each uses a different set of kanji Kenny, have you removed the fuchi, tsuba/seppa set to see if there is a stamp near the top? 1 1 Quote
Logan Samurai Posted August 9 Author Report Posted August 9 Bruce, I didn't see any other stamps. Thanks for the help. 1 Quote
