USA based polishers

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone here has had any experience with US based polishers? I know there are several people who operate in the US, but I’m unsure about their access to ancillary artisans such as shirasaya and habaki makers? Here is one polisher I came across but am unfamiliar with:

Tatsuhiko Konno

I will always send my blades to Woody Hall in Hawaii.

 

His work is exceptional and he is the 2nd american togoshi to win an NBTHK Award.

 

The 1st being his master Robert Benson. Robert has more or less retired in his old age but his apprentice/son Nicholas is a capable togishi as well. Tho I have never had a blade worked on by him.

 

Robert Benson has fully apprenticed under living national treasue Koke Ono so it s a great line of polishers

I suggest contacting Jimmy Hayashi in San Francisco since he is local to you. He polished one of my swords, and I would recommend him. I’d expect to see him at the upcoming San Francisco show, if you are attending.

Here's another. David Hofhine. I've never used him, however he at least posts examples of his work and his rates.

I believe Konno is in Washington State. I'm not sure if he's still taking commissions, but I hear he is mentoring a younger fellow. I only learned about them both recently.

Keep in mind that whatever polisher you choose, the waiting list will likely be pretty long. Most USA polishers are around a 2 year wait, the last time I called around.
