Greetings folks,

I've seen signatures on kai gunto blades before that aren't nihonto.  Also I'm aware that these can be gendaito or stainless steel.  Outside nihonto and gendaito, does a signature on a stainless steel bade really raise the value of the blade?

Just my opinion, however for me it's all about the blade. I would rather buy a mumei gendaito blade than a signed stainless or showato. BUT, an inscription or dedication that is meaningful could make a difference.

I think he's asking solely about stainless blades, John.

In general, I'd say no.  However, if you have two kaigunto - one signed the other mumei, all else equal - you might see the signed one sell.

Yes. I was thinking about KJT but wasn't clear.
