Ilovekatana Posted May 8 Report Posted May 8 (edited) I recently received a yari from the Roald Knutsen auction. So I though I'd show a few pictures I'd taken of it. I am worried there might be areas of active rust, but I am not sure as nothing seemed to wipe off from the areas I suspect. I am also curious if anyone has seen this particular niji mei variant of muramasa, in particular the mura character. I would also like to know if anyone recognizes the bonji. I also want to know if anyone knows any good togishi that have a relatively short wait time and how best the contact them. As of right now its been cleaned of old oil with 99% isopropyl alcohol, re oiled, and stored in a ziplock vci bag as the old shirasaya is cracked. Sorry if this is a bit much as I wanted to keep this all in one thread. Edited May 8 by Ilovekatana Quote
John C Posted May 9 Report Posted May 9 Re: the bonji or sanskrit - looks like there was more to it at one time (possibly polished out). Perhaps the one pictured below or maybe monju?? John C. Quote
YourBabyBjornBorg Posted May 9 Report Posted May 9 Hi! This Muramasa Mei looks a little weaker than what we usually see on Tanto, Wakizashi or Katana of Muramasa, But Meirin had a Hozon Yari quite resembles this one (https://www.nipponto.co.jp/swords5/WK328588.htm), have you seen it? I guess Muramasa's Mei on Yari could be a little different. There are some Mei from Hozon or better papered Muramasa's Yari. 1 Quote
Ilovekatana Posted May 9 Author Report Posted May 9 No I have not seen that yari, thank you. It does look rather similar if a bit longer. I should probably specify what is throwing me off on the mura character. The connecting horizontal stroke has a hook on the end rather than the arrowhead like shape I have seen on every muramasa signature I have access too. Quote
